Sampdoria part ways with coach Giampaolo after Monza loss

Serie A club Sampdoria announced over the weekend that it had sacked Marco Giampaolo as head coach. “Thank you to the coach and his staff for the seriousness and professionalism they have shown during their time at the club,” Sampdoria said in a statement.

In the weekend’s league, Sampdoria lost 0-3 to the team Monza at home and ranked last in the standings without a win. After the game, club vice-chairman Antonio Romee confirmed to Sky Sports that Giampaolo would be dismissed early. “I’m sorry for the situation we are in and I apologize to Giampaolo,” he said. “I know Giampaolo’s work ethic and dedication.”

“It’s very painful to get to the end with a performance like this, we played a game that wasn’t what we expected. We have to take responsibility and not pass the buck. This is football, everyone has a responsibility, but the coach has to pay for it.”

As for the team’s future coach, Antonio Romee said that they have so far been inconclusive, while “starting to find Giampaolo’s successor”. During this period, U19 coach Felice Tufano will be Sampdoria’s acting coach.

Several Italian media, including Italian transfer experts Di Marzio and Alfredo Pedura, said that former “Mariners” coaches Ranieri and Roberto D’Aversa are both the team’s first and foremost coaches candidate.

According to Sportitalia, in addition to Giampaolo, technical director Carlo Osti will also part ways with Sampdoria.
