Rayo Vallecano reach agreement with Espanyol over re-signing former loan player Raúl de Tomás on a permanent deal..

Rayo Vallecano announced on its official website on Tuesday that the club had reached an agreement with Espanyol over the transfer of the latter’s Spain international center forward Raúl de Tomás.

According to an official statement from Rayo Vallecano, De Tomás has agreed to a five-year long-term pre-contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2027. Since the transfer was completed after the summer window closed, Rayo Vallecano will have to wait until January to officially register De Tomás into their La Liga official squad-list, but he can still join and participate in training sessions with his new teammates together from today onwards.

De Tomás, 27, was born on October 17, 1994 in Madrid, Spain. He is 1.78 meters tall and plays as a center forward. He has dual citizenships of Spain and the Dominican Republic. De Tomás joined Real Madrid’s youth academy since he was a child, and began to play for the Los Blancos‘ reserve team in 2012. De Tomás was promoted to the first team in the summer of 2014, and made his first team debut in October of the same year, but this was the only time he played for Real Madrid‘s first team.

De Tomás was sent on-loan to Cordoba and Real Valladolid in 2015 and 2016. In the summer of 2017, De Tomás joined Real Vallecano on loan in the summer of 2017, his first time with the club. During his two years on-loan, De Tomás played a total of 66 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 38 goals and 5 assists.

In July 2019, De Tomás transferred to Benfica for €20million, but he was not able to recapture his form in the Liga Portugal bwin, thus in January 2020, he returned to Spain by joining Espanyol for the same price. After returning to his homeland, De Tomás’ form immediately recovered, during which he also joined forces with Chinese international star Wu Lei in the 2020/21 season and led the club to La Liga 2 title, thereby a return to La Liga.

Last season, De Tomás made 36 appearances for Espanyol in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 3 assists.

At the international level, De Tomás was called up to the Spain senior national team for the first time in November 2021, and then completed his national team debut in a European qualifying match for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar against Greece in the same month. So far, he has made three additional appearances for Spain in all competitions but still failed to score.

It is worth mentioning that De Tomás’ younger brother, Rubén, now 22, is also a winger who currently plays for Rayo Vallecano‘s reserve team.
