Official: Arsenal appoint Edu Gaspar as first-ever sporting director

After serving as the technical director for more than two years, the 44-year-old Edu Gaspar was promoted to the first sports director in Arsenal’s team history.

“Edu’s promotion will see him assume overall responsibility for all our youth academy activities, in addition to his existing responsibilities in both men’s and women’s football,” Arsenal said in a statement.

Edu Gaspar started his career in Corinthians and played for the Gunners for more than 3 years as a player. In July 2019, Gaspar joined Arsenal from the Brazilian Football Association and is currently appointed as the technical director by the board of directors.

“I’m delighted to take on this new role and I see it as an evolution and consolidation of the way we work,” Gaspar told Arsenal’s official website after taking on the role. “We’ve made good progress across the men’s, women’s and youth fronts and we’re all excited about what the future holds.”
