Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag confirmed Raphaël Varane might not be able to play in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to injury suffered in the game against Chelsea..

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag confirmed France international centre-back Raphaël Varane was seriously injured and may miss the FIFA World Cup in Qatar during the club’s Europa League group stage pre-match press conference against Sheriff Tiraspol on Wednesday.

Ten Hag said this when asked by reporters about Varane’s injury at the press conference. Ten Hag said: “Raphaël Varane is not in the team, he will be out, he will definitely not be available until around the World Cup in Qatar, so he will not be able to play for Manchester United during this period. We have to wait for the assessment. We’re also going to have to see how his injury is going, how well his recovery is progressing and many more.”

An even bigger blow for Les Bleus

Varane’s injury will certainly be a big blow to defending champions France. Head coach Didier Deschamps is currently facing the absence of goalkeeper Mike Maignan, defender Lucas Digne, midfielder Paul Pogba and Boubacar Kamara. While Hernández and Ibrahima Konaté have only just returned from injury recently, which will increases the recently underperformed France’s challenges when it comes player selection during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Varane suffered a hamstring injury while competing for the ball’s possession with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier in the club’s Premier League game against Chelsea.   At that time, when leaving the stadium, the Manchester United defender, who has won numerous trophies, shed tears and was comforted and supported by teammate Lisandro Martínez.
