Liverpool reportedly agreed to loan Brazil international defensive midfielder Arthur Melo from Juventus..

Many European media brought news this evening in Asian time that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Juventus over the loan signing of Brazil international defensive midfielder Artur Melo.

This exciting news has been confirmed by renowned Italian transfer journalists, Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio, as well as The Athletic‘s David Ornstein and James Pearce .

According to the reports, Arthur will join Liverpool on loan until the end of the season, and the agreement does not contain a mandatory buyout clause.

In addition, Romeo Agresti, the renowned Italian Juventus correspondent of Goal, also released a short clip through his personal official Twitter that Arthur has arrived at the Turin Airport preparing to fly to Liverpool for his medical and signing.

Not only that, Dominic King, Liverpool correspondent of Daily Mail, also added that Liverpool has been in contact with Bianconeri since last night after their Premier League match against the Newcastle United during which captain Jordan Henderson was seriously injured. After half a day of negotiation, the two teams finally reached an agreement, and Arthur himself agreed to go to Liverpool immediately after learning of the offer.

The 26-year-old Arthur was born on April 20, 1996 in Goiania, Brazil. He is 1.71 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder. Arthur joined the Gremio youth system at the age of 14 and made his first-team debut in 2015. Arthur, who has excellent and accurate passing ability, has been used by the outside world as a comparison with his future new teammate Thiago since his debut. During this period, he helped the club win the Copa do Brasil, Copa Libertadores and Recopa Sudamericana once each.

With superb performances, Arthur joined Barcelona in the summer of 2018 for €40million.

Although he performed well for the La Liga giants, Arthur has been ruthlessly criticized since the beginning of his latter days at the club due to their preference over new players.

In the summer of 2020, Arthur was controversially sold to Juventus for €82million by former president Josep Bartomeu in exchange for Miralem Pjanic.

After coming to the Old Lady, Arthur failed to adapt to the style of the Serie A, and has never been able to gain the absolute trust of any coach, thus his performances has been mediocre.

Last season, Arthur made a total of 31 appearances for Juventus in all competitions and provided one assist.

It is worth mentioning that  Arsenal have also been rumoured to be interested in signing Arthur this summer, but this rumour has never been confirmed by any trusted journalist.

Since Liverpool is in urgent need of a midfielder who can alleviate the club’s injury crisis, and Arthur is in urgent need of gametime to prove himself again in a new surrounding, therefore this transfer is a win-win situation for Arthur himself and the Reds.
