Freiburg striker Schade joins Brentford on loan with buyout clause

Brentford announced on Wednesday that German-Nigerian forward Kevin Schade, 21, has joined from Freiburg on loan.

Transaction Details

According to official sources, Schade’s loan period will expire in June this year, when Brentford must fulfill its mandatory buyout clause.

“We expect to make this deal permanent in the summer for an undisclosed club record fee,” Brentford said in a statement. “Then Schade will sign a five-year contract.”

The well-known German journalist Florian Plettenberg also added that Schade’s buyout fee is 25 million euros.

“I want to play in the Premier League”

Kevin Schade mainly plays as a right winger, but can also play as a left winger or a center forward. His career started in Freiburg: On August 21, 2021, Schade made his debut as a substitute in Freiburg’s 2-1 defeat of Dortmund in the Bundesliga. So far, he has played a total of 36 times, scoring 6 goals and sending 4 assists for Freiburg.

From the Bundesliga to the Premier League, Schade couldn’t hide his joy. He admitted that playing for a Premier League team is one of his dreams: “I want to play in the Premier League, and I want to play against the best teams in the world. For me, the Premier League is the best league in the world, and that’s why I took this big step.”

“I saw it (Brentford vs Liverpool), it was crazy! I want to play with these guys, I want to score goals and win in front of the best team.”

“Typical Brentford signing”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is very bullish on Schade’s prospects in the Premier League. He told the official media, “I think Kevin is a typical Brentford signing. He is a young and promising talent and we see great potential in him. We have been following him for a while, We think he fits our style of play.”

“He can play in three positions up front for us. He can play for us as a left or right winger or as a centre-forward. He has great pace and the way he runs behind the defenders is admirable.”

“He is very good in the air in the penalty area and can develop further to become a most dangerous attacking option with his header.”
