Former France international midfielder Blaise Matuidi announces retirement from football..

Former World Cup-winning France international midfielder Blaise Matuidi has announced his retirement through his official Twitter on Friday, officially ending his 18-year glorious career as a footballer.

Matuidi wrote in the statement: “Dear football, I love you so much, you have given me so much, but now it is time to say goodbye. I have achieved my childhood dream and my dreams as an adult. Today, I will open a new chapter of my life with pride, thank you.”

The 35-year-old Matuidi was born in Toulouse, France on April 9, 1987. He is 1.8 meters tall and has dual citizenship of France and Angola.

Matuidi joined the famous French INF Clairefontaine football academy for training when he was a child, and then played for the youth academies of Créteil and Troyes respectively.

Matuidi completed his Troyes first-team debut in November 2004, and soon established himself as the club’s key player in the first-team. After Troyes’ relegation, Matuidi joined Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2007 for €5million. During this time, he attracted the interests of Arsenal with his outstanding performances, but because the club did not let him go, Matuidi never got the chance to move to the Premier League.

In July 2011, Matuidi officially joined Paris Saint-Germain as the successor of the legendary international footballer Claude Makelele.

In the 6 years which he had played for Les Parisiens, Matuidi won 4 Ligue 1, 4 Coupe de la Ligue, 4 Trophée des Champions and 3 Coupe de France with the club.

In August 2017, Matuidi transferred to Juventus for €20million.

In the 3 years which had he played for I Bianconneri, Matuidi won 3 Serie A, 1 Coppa Italia, and 1 Supercoppa Italiana, once again proving the qualities he should have as a world-class star player.

After his contract expired in the summer of 2020, Matuidi moved to the Major League Soccer League (MLS) as a free agent, joining Inter Miami, the club his former teammate, the famous England international midfielder, David Beckham owned, however as the club was sanctioned for violating the foreign player limit, Matuidi was unfortunately left out of the squad since 2021.

After terminating his contract with Inter Miami at the beginning of this year, Matuidi has been out of work at home. His last public appearance was to go to the Lusail Stadium to watch the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar final between Argentina and France in person a few days ago.

At the international level, Matuidi played 84 times for France national team in all competitions from 2010 to 2019, scoring 9 goals and assisting 10 times. The peak moment of his career was winning the title in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with the team.
