Barcelona’s Netherlands international Memphis Depay slammed Diario AS, the mouthpiece of Real Madrid, through his personal official Twitter on Thursday night, and clarified that he did not deliberately delay the recovery from injury, as well as calling the newspaper to never question his professionalism.
Depay posted angrily on Twitter: “I heard some rumours that disrespects me, saying that I deliberately delayed the recovery from injury. The media easily spread some stories without verifying the truth, and the result was causing negative reports with my name on it. Please never question my professionalism!”
With the arrival of Rafinha and Robert Lewandowski, Depay’s status at the La Liga giants has completely diminished and turned into a substitute. To make matters worse, Depay has been sidelined due to a thigh injury while representing the Netherlands national team in the UEFA Nations League at the end of September, but during this period, he still often visited Camp Nou to cheer on his teammates.
In fact, since the summer of this season, there have been continuous rumours of Depay leaving the club. Serie A giants Juventus were indeed very close to signing the former Lyon star, but the final plan broke down due to the involvement of Polish center forward Arkadiusz Milik, turning it into a three-way transfer saga.
When he finally decided to stay at Barcelona, not only that injury problems struck, now he even have to clarify the false speculation made by Diario AS which claimed that he deliberately delayed the recovery of his injury, and he also had deal with some media for speculating that Chelsea has become the latest club to be very interested in signing him. It is safe to say that, 2022 has really been rough for Depay.
